About
My journey into sharpening…
I first began my campaign in blade sharpening as a means to upkeep my pocketknife. Steadily and rapidly, I found myself getting more and more interested in different kinds of blades like chef knives and axes, while also learning their sharpening quirks. I was fascinated by how dynamic the seemingly subtle differences in technique required were for sharpening different blades. I wanted to get better. My first course of action was in asking friends if I could sharpen their knives for them. I wanted all the practice I could get. In no time, I began to understand how not only different blade shapes needed to be worked on but, more interestingly, different kinds of steel; the world of sharpening was opening up to my curious hands. At some point, a friend of mine told me he would pay me to work on his kitchen set. About two months later I decided to turn this hobby into a business.
Being a few years into it now, my appreciation for the art of sharpening has only grown. Getting to work on anything from humble Ikea kitchen knives to custom pieces loved by collectors, enthusiasts, and professionals I continue to learn from each job and am so grateful to be able to practice this ancient craft.
